History

The Pelican Valley Health Center is part of the Hospital District formed in 1977.  It consists of a thirty-eight bed Medicare-certified skilled nursing facility and provides space for several community healthcare providers.

The hospital was organized in July 1945, and built in 1951. The Health Center expanded in 1963 to include a 20-bed nursing home.  In 1969, a 26 bed addition was built onto the nursing home. The clinic portion was expanded in 1979 and again in 1988. It was rented out until June 1991 when the Health Center took over management.  The hospital was closed April 1, 1993.

In August 1997, the Health Center leased the clinic to Heartland Health Systems. At that time, the Health Center also entered into a management agreement with Ecumen for Management of its nursing home.  In February 2002, MeritCare Medical Group took over the lease of the clinic from Heartland Health Systems.

The vacated hospital portion of the Health Center has been rented to NOVA CARE, to provide physical, occupational and speech therapy services to the community. MeritCare rents space to provide home health services.

The Pelican Valley Health Center now has an assisted living facility that is attached to the existing nursing home, Riverfront Manor.
